Our History
Our History
Our name means “Service of Peace.” We now have a nearly 65 year history of worship, education, tzedekah, gemilut hasadim and tikkun olam, and are affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism. Our nearly 400 families come from River Edge, Paramus, Oradell, Teaneck, Dumont, Washington Township, Hackensack, Fair Lawn and New Milford, and many other surrounding towns. Our Religious School and TASTE (Temple Avodat Shalom Teen Experience), our innovative post B'nai Mitzvah program, serve more than 150 students in grades pre-K through 12th.
We and our predecessor synagogues have been fortunate to have long-serving clergy, including Rabbi Chaim Stern(z'l), Rabbi Joseph Rudavsky(z'l), Rabbi Neal I. Borovitz, Rabbi Selig Salkowitz(z'l), Rabbi Jonathan Woll, Cantor Ronit Josephson and Rabbi Paul Jaconson. In 2019, Rabbi Jim Stoloff became our spiritual leader. Please see our clergy page for more information about Rabbi JIm and Cantor Maria.
