Teen Community

TASTE

Temple Avodat Shalom Teen Experience, our weekly teen learning session, engages teens in topics that they are interested in through discussion and projects, all while expanding their Judaic knowledge and strengthening their Jewish identities.

Our TASTE team has been hard at work planning for this year and we are excited to share our curricular plans!

Core (grade-based) Classes
These run for the entirety of the year

• 8th Grade: Being a Jewish Teen 101
• 9th and 10th Grades: [The People of] Israel
• 11th and 12th Grades: Jewish Social Action

Electives
These are not bound by grade and will switch throughout the year

• First Semester: Jewish Photography (with Barnett), Jews and Comics (with Dara and Rabbi Jim)
• Possible Upcoming Electives: Jewish Music, What's Jewish about Children's Books?, Jewish Baking, Law and Torah (as in Law and Order), Unknown Jewish Heroes, Jews in Sports  

Taste of TASTE: Try TASTE commitment-free for the first month!

TASTE is open to all teens, regardless of synagogue membership, and takes place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00.

Madrichim

Our teens are invited to join our Religious School classes on Sunday mornings as teaching assistants, where they provide support to our lead classroom teachers and serve as positive Jewish role models to our students.

Madrichim will also participate in a mandatory monthly learning session and check-in, where they will learn about child development, teaching skills, and leadership, and will be able to share their classroom experiences with their peers and an experienced teacher. Session dates to come out soon!

Youth Group

Our youth group creates programming that is by teens, for teens and focuses on socializing, social action, and leadership. Event highlights include our annual Midnight Run, movie nights, and cupcake wars.
