Midnight Run
Helping the Homeless
The Midnight Run is one of the most popular and impactful events for the youth group to participate in at Temple Avodat Shalom. Each year we ask the community for help in donating clothing, toiletries, and purchasing necessities like socks and underwear as well as grocery store gift cards to help us have all the supplies necessary to give out to the homeless community in NYC.
We spend the evening organizing the donations and preparing sandwiches, drinks and snacks to be distributed. This part of the evening is open to grades 5th-12, then the teens in grades 8th-12th board the bus around 8:30pm and make various stops to hand out the items needed. This is an amazing social action opportunity for the teens to be hands-on and see the impact of their efforts.
We ask the community to help gather items like toiletries or travel sized items found in hotels throughout the year or any clothing they do not need. We appreciate the continued support of our temple community in this annual program.
